Imbongi can score a deserved win in Zabeel Mile

Imbongi, Meydan.

by Peter Ward

FRIDAY is the Meydan Masters meeting, the first such jockeys' challenge on the new Meydan course and the Dubai-based De Kock team have six runners on the night, including two in the featured Group 2 Zabeel Mile. The mile turf event is not part of the jockey challenge and Imbongi makes a lot of appeal under Christophe Soumillon after their narrow defeat in the Group 2 Al Fahidi Fort.

Kevin Shea rides Hunting Tower to give the team a strong hand and De Kock said: "Imbongi has run two good races and should run a big race assuming he has recovered from the exertions of the Al Fahidi Fort. He seems in great form though and Hunting Tower should run his normal solid race."

There are two turf conditions races on the card and Mr Crazy Boy will take his chance in the first, the Meydan Classic, for 3yo's over a mile. He was last seen in the middle leg of the Maktoum Challenge and should appreciate the drop in class. De Kock said: "His turf form is good and the trip should suit. It looks a competitive race but he should be in the mix."

Frosty Secret contests the 6f conditions race (the first on the straight turf track) seeking his second 2010 Carnival win. A Dubai stalwart, he faces a quality field but the trainer hopes he will go well: "It is not going to be easy and he is drawn 12 of 12 – so we will not know if there is a draw bias. He is in good form though."

The four Tapeta handicaps comprise the jockey challenge and Warsaw will be partnered by Olivier Peslier in the opening 6f race, while Front House and Ted Durcan will have to try and concede weight all round in the 1m2f one which concludes the event.
